Joe has over 37 years actuarial, managerial and consulting
experience in property casualty insurance. Prior to founding Marker Actuarial
Services, LLC, in 2001, he worked 28 years for insurance companies, including
over 15 years as chief actuary at medium-sized property casualty insurers, where
he was also a part of senior management.
Joe has headed both small actuarial departments and larger
departments spread over multiple locations. Joe chaired
the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association. Since 2007,
he has been teaching upper-level actuarial science courses at the University
of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Joe previously taught
actuarial science courses at Ball State University in Muncie,
Indiana.
Joe graduated with Highest Honors in Mathematics
from the University of Michigan and has a Masters degree
in Mathematics. He wrote two major actuarial papers for the
Casualty Actuarial Society and chaired actuarial examination committees.
Joe is a frequent speaker at professional seminars and is
a member of the Casualty Actuarial Society and the American
Academy of Actuaries. He chaired a subsection of the
Loss Simulation Model Working Party that recently developed an open-source model
to simulate the detailed claim and reserve change experience of a property-casualty
insurer. He developed the procedures that enable an insurer to determine model
parameters from its own data.

Connie is a founding partner of Marker Actuarial
Services, LLC. As Joe Marker's wife and business associate, they
have worked as a team for 40 years. Connie handles non-actuarial functions for the business,
managing the office, coordinating specialized support personnel as needed, and managing the
computer systems. This allows Joe to focus entirely on client consulting services.
Her background is in planning and policy analysis.
Connie has a Bachelor's degree from the
University of Michigan with Honors and a Master's degree
in Policy Analysis, with Honors. She worked as a planner in
State and local governments before turning her time fully
to support services, allowing Joe more time for actuarial
work.
Peer Review by a network of independent
consulting actuaries
Marker Actuarial Services, LLC has affiliations
with a network of independent consulting actuaries. These affiliations
enable Marker to bring in extra resources for large projects, provide for
peer review by independent actuaries, and obtain specialized expertise as needed.
They benefit the client by insuring that the client is not paying for
the overhead of a large organization.
